When systems grow, knowledge must grow with them

Knowledge managementKnowledge Graph and AIData owners

With every new application, user group, permission, or SharePoint site, not only does the IT landscape grow, but so does the knowledge required for its secure operation. In organically grown environments, however, this knowledge is often distributed across different systems or only partially traceable.

The presentation shows how technical information from Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and file servers is consolidated and linked to one another. This makes access, dependencies, and responsibilities visible.

Another focus is on generating knowledge directly as changes occur: changes to users, groups, permissions, or data structures are linked with justifications, comments, approvals, and responsibilities. This creates a traceable history of what was changed, why, and by whom - as a basis for operations, handovers, security, compliance, and audits.

Overview of the presentation:

  • When IT grows, complexity grows with it: why knowledge about groups, permissions, systems, and dependencies is increasingly lost
  • From individual technical data to usable knowledge: understanding AD, Entra ID, Teams, SharePoint, and file servers in context
  • The Knowledge Graph as a knowledge hub: making relationships between users, groups, data, systems, and responsible parties visible
  • Generating knowledge directly within the process: documenting changes with justification, comment, approval, and responsibility
  • Keeping decisions permanently traceable: making knowledge available for operations, handovers, security, compliance, and audits

The presentation is aimed at:

IT managers, IT administrators, those responsible for knowledge management, IT security, compliance, and digitalization, as well as companies seeking to improve their IT documentation, handover processes, or audit readiness.

It specifically addresses organizations with organically grown IT structures, in which critical knowledge about Active Directory, permissions, Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, or file servers is often only incompletely documented or heavily dependent on individual key personnel.
